Overview

Successfully accounting for any government grant starts first with your accounting system and the associated accounting policies and procedures. This advanced course focuses on educating non-profits on how to comply with the requirements of the Federal Acquisition Regulations, OMB Circular A-122, and OMB Circular A-133. As an attendee, you will learn the government’s accounting system expectations and how to best structure your company’s systems to comply with these expectations.
This course will also address direct and indirect costs, indirect cost pools and allocation bases, and cost allowability requirements. You will be provided an overview of example indirect cost pools and discuss ways to segregate both direct and indirect costs within your respective accounting systems.
This program will include a detailed discussion covering the differences between the Cost Principle requirements of FAR Part 31 and the cost principles unique to non-profit organizations under OMB Circular A-122, in order to ensure that your organizations is able to successfully exclude unallowable costs from any government invoice or final rate claim.
The instructors will also address the expectations for finalizing your indirect rates on an annual basis, as well as how to perform interim billings throughout the year. In addition, you will receive detailed guidance on the reporting requirements of OMB Circular A-133 and how to protect yourself from an audit standpoint. Finally, we will conclude the course with a case study that will follow an example grant or cooperative agreement from proposal to completion.
This comprehensive course will provide participants with the background and confidence to apply their existing or newly acquired knowledge to work in supporting or implementing the necessary processes for their organization to successfully meet these requirements.  The instructors will share past experiences to help every company address their unique circumstances because they understand every company is somewhat different. Whether you’ve been doing business with the government for many years, or if you’ve just landed your first contract, this course will provide you with the necessary tools to ensure your accounting is top notch.
