This comprehensive, four-day overview of construction contracts will cover the construction contracting process from beginning to end. Our expert instructors will address the mechanics of every stage in the process, from preparing and scheduling the job, bidding on through to closeout.

Changes/Changed Conditions, Remedies: Time extensions. Price increases, Delay, Suspension and Acceleration
The UCC in Construction Activities
Job Close-out: Wind-up procedures; records; reports; final payments.

Terry concentrates his practice in the areas of construction law and surety law. Terry is a Fellow of the American College of Construction Lawyers (past member of the Board of Governors). His practice includes contract review and negotiation, contract preparation, risk management, litigation, claims avoidance and general construction advice to all participants in the construction industry.
Terry is a frequent speaker for construction and commercial groups and has lectured and written numerous articles for several industry groups and professional organizations in the construction industry. Terry is also a mediator and arbitrator of construction cases.

James Newland
Partner, Dentons US LLP
James Newland is a partner in Dentons US LLP, a licensed architect, and his law practice focuses on major construction and public works projects and includes a mix of non-contentious and contentious matters. He is ranked by Chambers USA which describes him as “very well versed in construction law and construction related issues.” He began practice in 1998.
In his practice, James drafts and negotiates construction contracts and procurement documents and helps clients resolve major complex claims involving construction and design issues on domestic and international projects. He represents national and international contractors and project owners in transactional work, mediation, arbitration and litigation. He has significant experience in vertical construction, power and heavy civil contracting and claims, as well as in design-build, P3, alliance contracting and traditional design-bid build delivery formats. Government construction contracting is a major focus of his work.
Prior to practicing law, James practiced architecture and worked as a project manager on development projects. Given this experience, James is frequently called upon to counsel clients on risk management and allocation, advising on troubled projects during the construction phase, project work-outs and project closeout strategies.
James received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and earned his JD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.

Chad V. Theriot is a member of the firm’s board of directors. He is also co-leader of the firm’s Construction Industry Team. He focuses on major public and commercial construction and infrastructure projects.
Chad advises domestic and international clients across a broad spectrum of construction, contracting, and procurement activities. He represents owners, commercial and government contractors, major subcontractors, and original equipment manufacturers in contract negotiation, construction litigation and construction claims avoidance.
Chad currently represents US, UK, Austrian, German, South African, and Saudi Arabian companies spanning the globe in the energy, construction, aviation, defense, and shipping sectors. He currently is negotiating multiple billion dollar construction contracts and has disputes before the ICC and the LCIA involving international disputes. He also currently represents domestic clients before the AAA and various state and federal courts.
